Pope Francis receives the priors general of the Augustinian family

The Holy Father received in audience the superiors of the Augustinians, Augustinian Recollects and Discalced Augustinians to deal, among other topics, with the doctoral process of St. Thomas of Villanova.

The priors general of the orders of St. Augustine, Augustinian Recollects and Discalced Augustinians were received last Thursday in audience by Pope Francis. The superiors transmitted to the Holy Father first of all the unity of the Augustinian family in prayer for their person and intentions.

The main reason for the audience was to promote the process for St. Thomas of Villanova to be declared doctor of the Church for his eminent and present doctrine. The priors general explained to the Holy Father the influence of the thought of the Augustinian saint, of his doctrine and of the example of life given to the poor and needy.

Alejandro Moral OSA, Miguel Miró OAR and Doriano Ceteroni OAD presented the complete works of St. Thomas of Villanova as a gift to Pope Francis.

Pope Francis also wanted to know the work of the different branches of the Augustinian family throughout the world. They also talked about the challenges of the Church and consecrated life.
