General Council

The Prior General and his Council are responsible in implementing the guidelines proposed by the General Chapter for the next six years. Miguel Miró took charge of the office following Javier Guerra Ayala who had been at the top of the institution for the last twelve years.

Miguel Miró Miró, prior general

He was born in Vinebre (Tarragona) on September 2, 1949. He made his profession of religious vows in the Order of Augustinians Recollects on the 10th of August 1975 in Monteagudo (Navarra). He was ordained priest on August 28, 1978 in Lodosa (Navarra). He is a member of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine. Before entering the Order, he already finished a degree in Technical Architecture (1971) at School of Technical Architects in Barcelona. He completed his ecclesiastical studies (1978) at the Augustinian Recollects’Center for Theological Studies in Marcilla (Navarra). He is a graduate of Spiritual Theology (1997) at Gregorian University, Rome.

Until the year 1995, his life as religious was spent working in the field of formation in Spain. He was a former formator in Lodosa (1978-1982), Fuenterrabía (1982), Valladolid (1983-1984) and back again in Lodosa from 1984 to 1988. He was a former Master of Novices (1988-1991) in the novitiate house of Monteagudo (Navarra) and Master of the Professed (1991-1995) in the Theologate of Marcilla (Navarra). In the year 1995, he moved to Rome to pursue further studies in Spiritual Theology. In 1997 he was elected Prior Provincial of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, and was reelected in the Provincial Chapter in the year 2000. He was appointed prior of the community of Marcilla in 2003 and was chosen as General Vicar of the Order during the General Chapter held in Rome in 2004. In 2010, he was elected as President of the General Chapter held in Spain, and then was chosen as the new Prior General.

 

 

José Ramón Pérez Sáenz, First Councilor

He was born in 1960 and is a native of Manjarrés (La Rioja, Spain). He became a member of the Augustinian Recollects in 1979 and was ordained priest in 1984. In Venezuela, he worked in schools and parishes, but also dedicated himself in the formation of seminarians.

In 2005, he was elected as Prior Provincial of Saint Joseph Province, was reelected for the same office, but had to relinquish his position following his incorporation into the new General Government. He currently works as the General Vicar of the Order, prior of the local community in the General Curia, president of the General Secretariat for Vocations and Initial Formation, and a member of the Restructuring Commission.

 

 

José María Sánchez Martín, Second Councilor

He was born in 1973 in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo, Spain). He made his simple profession of vows in Burgos in 1992, and in that same place six years later he was ordained priest. He worked as educator in the schools of Santo Tomás Province in Spain, specifically in Guadalajara and then in Granada. He was the Vicar of the Province of Santo Tomás and the Director of the Santo Tomás de Villanueva school in Granada, when he was chosen as one of the General Councilors.

Currently, he is the President of the Secretariat for Education and Youth Apostolate; President of the Commission for the Review of the Constitutions; and the Official Representative of the Order before the cloistered nuns, religious sisters and the Recollect Augustinian Youth (JAR).

 

 

Julián Antonio Hincapié López, Third Councilor

He was born in Manizales (Caldas, Colombia) in 1970. He professed his religious vows in El Desierto de la Candelaria in 1994. Five years later, he was ordained priest. As a priest he worked in various fields, especially in parishes and missions. He was the Rector of the Parish of San Joaquín, in the neighborhood of Las Ferias, in Bogota, when he was tasked to serve in the General Council.

He is currently the president of the General Secretariat for Ministerial and Missionary Apostolate, and collaborator of the General Procurator. He also provides assistance to the Secretariats of Formation and Spirituality and is a member of the Office of Communication and the Commission for the Centenary of Religiosas Familias.

 

 

Pablo Panedas Galindo, Fourth Councilor

He was born in 1953 and is a native of Mucientes (Valladolid, Spain). He did his simple profession in Monteagudo in 1972 and was ordained priest in 1976. He was a Professor of Theology in Marcilla (Navarra) from 1979 to 2003 and became Prior from 1997 to 2003. The he was the religious in-charge of the publications of the province of Saint Nicholas based in Madrid. At the time of his appointment as General Councilor, he was the Prior of Saint Ezequiel Moreno Seminary in Pozos de Santa Ana (Costa Rica).

Currently, he is the Prior of Collegio di Sant’Ildefonso in Rome, President of the Secretariat for Spirituality, Coordinator of the Office of Communication, President of the Commission for the Centenary of Religiosas Familias, and contact person of the Institutes of the Order and Official Representative before the Secular Augustinian Recollects.

 

 

Samson Silloríquez Subaldo, Fifth Councilor

He was born the year 1954 in Santa Barbara (Iloilo, Philippines). He became a member of the Augustinian Recollects in 1977 and was ordained priest in 1981. He was a Professor of Theology in the Recollect Theologate in Mira-Nila, Philippines, and served as parish priest in different places. He served the Archdiocese of Manila as one of its canonical consultants.

In 2004 he was appointed as Procurator of the Order before the Hoy See, as well as the Postulator of the Order for the Causes of the Saints. He also serves as Collaborator of the Secretariat for Spirituality and of the Commission for the Centenary of Religiosas Familias.

 

 

Guadalupe Sergio Camarena Lara, Sixth Councilor

He is a Mexican, born in the federal capital in 1967. He professed his religious vows in Monteagudo (Navarra, Spain) in 1989. He was ordained priest in Querétaro (Mexico) in 1993 and there he worked at Fray Luis de León School for four years. Then he made further theological studies in Madrid. In 2002 he resided in Costa Rica as a religious delegate.Before his appointment as the new General Secretary, he was the Prior of St. Mónica’s shrine in Mexico City.

Currently he isthe General Secretary of the Order. He also is a member of the Restructuring Commission and the Office of Communication. And he functions as the representative before the Bishops of the Order.
