Ordained a new Augustinian Recollect priest in Brazil

The Augustinian Recollect Rhuam Ferreira Rodrigues de Almeida received the priesthood in the San Juan Bautista parish in Muqui (Brazil), in the city where he was born. The Eucharist was presided over by the Augustinian Recollect Bishop Mons. Jesús María Cizaurre.

The Order of Augustinian Recollects has had a new priest since last September 7. The Augustinian Recollect Rhuam Ferreira Rodrigues de Almeida (Muqui, Brazil, 1991) was ordained a priest in the parish of San Juan Bautista, in the city where he was born. Nearly thirty Augustinian Recollect priests and religious accompanied the ordering, who will begin to perform his pastoral work in Belém do Pará (Brazil).

The Eucharist, which took place on Saturday afternoon, was chaired by the Augustinian Recollect Bishop of Bragança do Pará, Mons. Jesus Maria Cizaurre, who handed the priestly order to Rhuan Ferreira Rodrigues. As usual, before receiving the priestly attributes, the Augustinian Recollect religious committed himself publicly to the community at the service of the people of God; he asked, prostrated before the altar, the intercession of the saints; He received the imposition of Mons. Cizaurre and the priests present; and was anointed with the holy oils. Subsequently, he received the Gospel as a symbol of the proclamation of the Word from the Augustinian bishop, and the paten and the chalice as a symbol of the Eucharist.

In his homily, the prelate of Bragança indicated that the priest must be “the image of the good shepherd and a servant with the people of God.” “Brother, you are called to serve, and to serve your people, not wherever you want. Where you are, no matter the place, you will live with your brothers and you will develop your pastoral action,” he encouraged. Also present in the Eucharist was the prior provincial of the Province of Santo Tomás de Villanueva, Miguel Ángel Hernández.

The new priest is “immensely grateful to the Order” for everything he has received me, “from the experience of God in the community to intellectual growth,” he said in an interview on the web recoletosstv.com. “These will be new challenges that will make me trust in God. I ask the Lord to convey the joy of following him and to be his instrument,” he said.
