The Commission for the Protection of Minors of the Order of Augustinian Recollects is a body dependent on the Prior General whose objectives are:
The creation of this Commission represents a renewed commitment of the Order against all types of child abuse and the creation of safe environment in all the places where we are and in the apostolic works we serve. With this Commission, the Order joins the efforts of the Church to promote prevention, transparency and determination in the treatment of sexual crimes against minors.
Since 2015 the Order of Augustinian Recollects has a Protocol for the Protection and Prevention of Childhood and Adolescence which is obligatory throughout the Order. The Protocol is complimentary to the Code of Canon Law, to the Modifications to Normae de Gravioribus Delictis from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and to the regulations of the different Episcopal Conferences.
Along with this protocol, in recent years steps have continued to be taken to create safe spaces in all the communities and apostolic works of the Order. As a result of this effort, the following elements have emerged:
– Guidelines for activities with children in relation to minors and how to avoid improper conduct (Rome, 2018), obligatory for all religious and contracted and voluntary personnel of the apostolic works of the Order. Its contents are to be communicated to all and their knowledge and dedication is to be recorded.
– Communication manual for Crisis Management (Rome, 2018).
– Model Guide for the Protection of Minors of the Order of Augustinian Recollects
(Rome, 2018), to adapt to the different apostolic works, according to the culture and laws of each country
In addition, the Commission for the Protection of Minors offers an e-mail box [email protected] to make queries or report possible cases of abuse in the context of the Order.
