Granada dedicates a street to Father Marcelino Álvarez

The mayor of Granada, José Torres Hurtado, attended the inauguration of the new street with the Municipal Council, which renders homage to the former director of Colegio Santo Tomás de Villanueva and promoter of sports in Granada.

The street Camino de las Vacas has been renamed Father Marcelino Álvarez street. The inauguration implements what the Municipal council has decided upon on October 29, 2010.

The highest authority of the municipality highlighted the great figure of Marcelino Álvarez, who died, being the prior provincial and who, in his stay in Granada, had been one of the great promoters of sports in the academe. During the inauguration, the present director of Colegio Santo Tomás de Villanueva, Father Antonio Carrón, Father Alfredo Arce, also a former director of the school, Don Indalecio Sánchez Montesinos, an alumnus of the Colegio and the present Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de Granada were involved as well. Finally, the student choir rendered a song in honor of Father Marcelino.

Father Marcelino Memorial Fun Run in April

During the inauguration, in which the members of the academic community of the Augustinian Recollects, together with the students and teachers of the school, alumni, representatives of parents of students, friends and neighboring residents were present, it was announced that on April 29 will be the sixth Father Marcelino memorial fun run.

This engagement, which is growing in quality and number of participants every year, is another opportunity of presenting the great values, which Father Marcelino Álvarez left as legacy: love for sports, education, friendship, solidarity and Christian commitment.
