New community in Cajamarca

The Church entrusted the Andean mission of Chota to the Augustinian Recollects half a century ago. There they have left their lives and there they continue. Their presence in the Andes in the north of Peru is now being increased, with the sending of a community of three religious. The friars have established themselves in the neighbouring diocese of Cajamarca to support the plans of the Augustinian Recollect bishop, Jose Carmelo Martinez, and to look after a population of 70,000 souls. The community has started by working with the poorest people, both in the city and in the countryside, at an altitude of 3,000 metres.
